Packshot - Cave De La Vigne Blanche Viré Clessé Blanc

Cave De La Vigne Blanche, AOP Viré-Clessé, White, 2024

Presentation

Situated in the heart of the Mâconnais, Cave de la Vigne Blanche unites around fifteen growers who share a commitment to crafting high-quality wines rooted in local tradition. In a region where Chardonnay reigns, the cave sources fruit from carefully selected plots on limestone-clay soils that lend freshness and typicity to the wines. Sustainable viticulture is at the core of their philosophy, with a focus on minimizing chemical inputs and promoting biodiversity through thoughtful soil management. Depending on the vineyard, harvests are carried out manually or mechanically to ensure optimal quality. Vinification in stainless steel preserves the grape’s aromatic purity, while some cuvées benefit from lees aging for added roundness and depth. What sets this cooperative apart is its collaborative spirit and ambition to produce accessible yet authentic wines. With vibrant notes of white fruit and citrus, the wines offer freshness, softness, and a faithful expression of their origin.

Tasting

This white Viré-Clessé captures the elegance and freshness typical of fine Mâconnais Chardonnays. Its bright robe with pale golden-green glints reveals a pure, inviting nose. Aromas of white flowers (hawthorn, acacia), citrus (lemon, grapefruit), and white-fleshed fruits (pear, apple) come through with clarity, lifted by a chalky mineral hint. On the palate, the attack is lively, supported by crisp fruit and a vibrant tension. The profile is dry and linear, carried by fine acidity and a mouthwatering, flinty finish.

Food pairings

This Viré-Clessé pairs beautifully with dishes that highlight its freshness and minerality:
Grilled or steamed fish: sole meunière, sea bream with fennel, sea bass fillets with citrus
Vegetable-based dishes: vegetable tian, asparagus risotto, stir-fried crunchy vegetables
Firm, characterful cheeses: young Comté, aged ewe’s milk tomme
Fresh starters: sea bream ceviche, salmon tartare with mango, lemony shrimp salad
Summer aperitif: with seafood tapas, fish rillettes, or lemony hummus
A versatile, well-balanced wine, perfect for gourmet moments that call for finesse, a sense of place, and invigorating freshness ideal both as an aperitif and at the table.
