Domaine Saint Martin D'Agel
Domaine Saint Martin D'Agel
Domaine Saint Martin d’Agel is nestled at an altitude of 250 metres on the schist slopes of Faugères, in a wild and preserved landscape of the Haut-Languedoc shaped by centuries of history. A family estate for eight generations, the domaine was developed by Michel and Madeleine Lugagne Delpon, who remain deeply committed to showcasing the unique identity of these schist terroirs. The vineyard covers around 45 hectares planted on the famous black schist soils of Faugères.
The estate takes its name from the ancient Saint Martin d’Agel chapel, located along a historic pilgrimage route leading from the Haut-Languedoc toward Santiago de Compostela. Local history also recalls the presence of the Visigoths in this strategic region between the Mediterranean and the foothills of the Cévennes mountains. This rich heritage still shapes the spirit of the estate today, blending history, wild landscapes and viticultural tradition.
The vines, ranging from 15 to more than 70 years old, root deeply into the schist soils, bringing mineral freshness, tension and depth to the wines. The estate stands out for its meticulous parcel-by-parcel approach, with each plot vinified separately to reveal the many expressions of the terroir. Ageing in barrels and amphorae preserves balance and elegance, resulting in wines marked by notes of black fruits, spices, garrigue and graphite.
