Domaine Michel
Located in Clessé, in the heart of the Mâconnais in Saône-et-Loire, Domaine Michel is a family estate where winemaking has been passed down for six generations. Based in the hamlet of Cray, the domaine reflects a savoir-faire deeply rooted in the Burgundian terroir.
The Michel family farms around 15 hectares exclusively planted with Chardonnay, on clay-limestone soils with favourable exposures that ensure finesse and aromatic richness. With an average vine age of around 50 years, the vineyard brings depth and maturity of expression to the wines.
Today, Denis, Franck and Vincent Michel run the estate with a sustainable and environmentally respectful approach, combining tradition with modern precision. Regular ploughing, controlled short pruning and hand harvesting ensure careful grape selection.
Ageing, often carried out on fine lees, is adapted to each cuvée to preserve freshness, minerality and complexity. Best known for its Viré-Clessé wines, an appellation created in 1999 dedicated to the pure expression of Chardonnay, the domaine also produces Mâcon-Villages and several single-parcel cuvées.
