Domaine Modat
Domaine Modat
Perched on the wild hillsides of Cassagnes in the Agly Valley, Domaine Modat is part of the new generation of estates redefining the identity of Roussillon wines. Founded in 2007 by Jean-Philippe and Anne Modat, the domaine quickly became known for its elegant and fresh interpretation of a region often associated with power and warmth.
The vineyard covers around 25 hectares farmed organically since 2014 and biodynamically since 2015. The vines grow on remarkable gneiss soils, decomposed granite sands formed from fractured rock, which bring mineral tension, freshness and precision to the wines. Shaped by the tramontane wind, Mediterranean sunlight and significant day-to-night temperature variations, Grenache, Carignan, Syrah, Macabeu and Chenin develop particularly pure and vibrant expressions.
In the cellar, intervention is deliberately minimal in order to preserve terroir identity and natural balance. Fermentations rely on indigenous yeasts, sulphur use is kept very low and ageing is carefully managed to enhance finesse rather than power. Domaine Modat wines stand out for their bright fruit, floral and spicy notes, and above all for their remarkable freshness and elegance, a signature style that has become a benchmark for contemporary Roussillon wines.
