Presentation
Located in Vosne-Romanée, Domaine Michel Noëllat traces its roots back to the 19th century with Félix Noëllat, a family pioneer. Since then, five generations have succeeded, combining heritage and modernity. The estate's evolution is illustrated by constant investments: in 1980, a vaulted stone cellar was dug under the property, and in 2007, an ultra-modern winery equipped with thermo-regulated stainless steel tanks was established. Since 2012, vineyard management has been handled by Sébastien Noëllat (responsible for viticulture and vinification) and his cousin Sophie, who oversees the commercial side. The vines, cultivated using sustainable practices, cover several prestigious appellations, including Vosne-Romanée, Chambolle-Musigny, and Clos de Vougeot. The reds are aged for 18 months in oak barrels, with meticulous work on extraction and aging. What makes it famous? Powerful and refined wines with a distinctive aromatic signature, blending bright fruit and silky textures.
Location
The Vosne-Romanée vineyards of Domaine Michel Noëllat lie in the heart of this legendary village in the Côte de Nuits, between Nuits-Saint-Georges and Vougeot. The plots benefit from a gentle slope facing east-southeast, with ideal exposure to morning sunlight and natural drainage. Situated at an elevation of around 250 meters, they offer ideal conditions for growing Pinot Noir of remarkable balance and complexity.
Terroir
The terroir is composed of fine clay mixed with limestone gravel over a solid calcareous bedrock. This balanced soil ensures consistent water supply and even ripening of the fruit. The Pinot Noir expresses itself here with exceptional aromatic depth, refined structure, and a distinctive mineral freshness.
In the vineyard
The vineyard is managed with precision and respect for tradition. Soil is worked manually to encourage deep rooting, treatments are adapted to the vintage, and yields are carefully controlled to preserve concentration. The grapes are harvested by hand, ensuring optimal ripeness and selection.
Harvest
Harvesting is done entirely by hand, with meticulous sorting directly in the vineyard. Grapes are carefully transported in small crates to preserve their condition before vinification. Each plot is vinified separately to respect its unique identity.
Winemaking
Fermentation takes place in open vats using indigenous yeasts, preceded by cold maceration. Extraction is gentle, using light punch-downs to preserve the elegance of the fruit.
Ageing
The wine is then aged for 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels, 25 to 30% of which are new, bringing complexity and finesse without overpowering the wine’s natural expression.
