Wines designed for aging and expressing the Burgundian terroir.

Location

Aloxe Corton Rouge from Domaine Bruno Clair is located at the foot of the Corton hill in the village of Aloxe Corton, at the southern end of the Côte de Nuits and the gateway to the Côte de Beaune. The parcels are planted on well exposed slopes at moderate altitude promoting regular ripening of Pinot Noir. The predominantly eastern exposure captures morning light while preserving natural freshness. The slope ensures efficient drainage of rainwater. The proximity of Corton hill influences the microclimate and brings beneficial temperature variation. This setting gives the wine structure and balance.

Terroir

The terroir consists of rich clay limestone soils mixed with limestone scree from the Corton hill. Clay brings structure and density to the wine. Limestone provides tension, precision and minerality. Well drained soils encourage deep rooting and balanced water supply. This combination allows Pinot Noir to develop both power and finesse. The terroir imparts a structured yet elegant tannic framework. It also brings aromatic depth and freshness. Aloxe Corton stands out for its balance between strength and refinement. The wine offers good ageing potential.

In the vineyard

Domaine Bruno Clair manages its vineyards with respect for living ecosystems and the environment. Soils are ploughed mechanically to preserve vitality and biological life. No chemical herbicides are used. Pruning and canopy work control yields and enhance natural concentration. Treatments are adapted to each vintage. Careful observation guides every decision. The objective is to harvest healthy and perfectly ripe grapes. Biodiversity around the vines is encouraged to maintain natural balance. This discipline ensures faithful expression of the terroir.

Harvest

Harvesting is carried out entirely by hand to protect cluster integrity. An initial selection is performed in the vineyard to retain only optimally ripe grapes. Clusters are collected in small crates to avoid crushing. A second meticulous sorting is carried out at the winery. This double selection guarantees homogeneity and quality. The harvest date is chosen to balance phenolic ripeness and natural freshness. The estate seeks ideal maturity without excess richness. Careful harvesting shapes the wine’s structure and precision.

Winemaking

Vinification is conducted with precision to respect Pinot Noir character and terroir identity. Depending on the vintage, a measured proportion of whole clusters may be included to enhance complexity and freshness. Fermentations occur with indigenous yeasts. Extraction is gentle and progressive to preserve refined tannins and fruit purity. Maceration develops depth and structure without heaviness.

Ageing

Ageing takes place in French oak barrels for approximately 14 to 16 months. The proportion of new oak is around 30 to 40 percent depending on the vintage. The wood supports without masking the wine’s character. Time refines texture and harmonises the whole.
