Presentation

Domaine Julie Belland, heir to Domaine Roger Belland, is a family estate located south of Côte de Beaune. For six generations, the Belland family has cultivated prestigious terroirs in major appellations such as Santenay, Maranges, Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet, Meursault, Volnay, and Pommard. Julie Belland continues the work initiated by her father Roger, emphasizing reasoned and sustainable viticulture. Grass cover between rows preserves the microbial activity of the soils and avoids the use of chemical herbicides. Harvesting is manual, with meticulous sorting before vinification. The wines, aged in oak barrels, reveal beautiful aromatic complexity and elegant structure. The whites stand out for their finesse and richness, while the reds offer a superb expression of Pinot Noir with silky tannins and great depth.

Location

The only Grand Cru located in Chassagne-Montrachet and the smallest Grand Cru in the Côte de Beaune, covering just 1.56 hectares.

Terroir

The soil is shallow, limestone-rich, and abundant in chalk, providing excellent drainage and mineral expression.

In the vineyard

Guyot pruning is used, with very early shoot thinning and leaf removal (at flowering cap fall) to promote optimal grape development.

Harvest

Harvesting is done 100% by hand, with a strict selection of the grapes directly in the vineyard.

Winemaking

Whole-cluster pressing is used with a gentle crush. A long, low-pressure press is carried out using a pneumatic press, followed by settling for 24 to 48 hours. Both alcoholic and malolactic fermentations take place in oak barrels. Ageing on fine lees is done with occasional bâtonnage between the two fermentations. The wine is lightly filtered and bottled at the estate.

Ageing

The wine is aged for 12 months in 228-liter oak barrels, 40% of which are new. Malolactic fermentation occurs during barrel ageing.

The finish is long and elegant, lingering with hints of honey and a subtle saline touch.

Food pairings

This exceptional wine pairs perfectly with refined dishes such as:
– Pan-seared foie gras, where the wine’s freshness balances the richness.
– Roast lobster with lemon butter, highlighting its buttery, citrus nuances.
– Salt-crusted sea bass, enhanced by the wine’s mineral finesse.
– Bresse chicken in cream and morels, harmonizing with its round texture.
– Aged soft cheeses like Brie de Meaux or Chaource, which reveal its aromatic depth.
