Presentation
Anchored in the Mâconnais, Domaine Du Clos Des Rocs is managed by Olivier Giroux, a passionate winemaker who highlights the pure expression of Chardonnay through precise and elegant wines. Located on limestone terroirs at altitude, the estate benefits from an ideal exposure that favors perfect grape maturity. The vines, some of which are over 50 years old, are cultivated organically, with meticulous soil work and limited interventions. Vinifications are precise, with natural fermentations and long aging on lees in oak barrels, giving the wines richness and balance. The whites from the estate charm with their mineral tension, complex aromas of white fruits, flowers, and hazelnut, and great aging potential. A reference estate for lovers of great whites from the Mâconnais.
Location
“Les Mûres” is one of the flagship cuvées from Domaine du Clos des Rocs, an organically farmed estate based in Loché, in the heart of the Mâconnais. It is produced under the AOP Pouilly-Loché, the smallest and one of the most distinctive appellations in the region a true ambassador of this unique terroir.
Terroir
This wine comes from a single one-hectare plot planted with 70-year-old Chardonnay vines. The vineyard lies on east-facing slopes at 260 meters above sea level. The soil is shallow, reddish, and strewn with limestone pebbles, with the bedrock often just 20 cm below the surface, giving the wine exceptional mineral intensity.
In the vineyard
The vines are farmed according to the principles of certified organic viticulture, with deep respect for the soil and the surrounding ecosystem.
Harvest
The grapes are harvested by hand, ensuring careful selection and optimal fruit quality.
Winemaking
After a gentle crushing, the grapes undergo a very slow pressing designed to extract only the finest juice.
Ageing
The wine is then aged for 12 months exclusively in 500-liter oak barrels (between 2 and 8 years old), with no use of stainless steel. Sulfur is precisely and moderately added to preserve the fruit’s purity and the subtle expression of the terroir.
