Presentation
One of the main characteristics of Nuits-Saint-Georges’ wines lies in the great diversity of its terroirs, diversity that is found in the different styles of wines that vary greatly depending on where the grapes are grown. Based in Nuits-Saint-Georges, the House of Edouard Delaunay illustrates this multiplicity by offering several selections from Premier Cru climats located both north and south of the village.
Terroir
This 4-hectare climat is located just south of the village, at the very top of the slope. It benefits from east-northeastern exposure and very stony, shallow soil that is well drained to lend the wine freshness and concentration. Its high altitude also contributes to the wine’s freshness.
Winemaking
The organically certified grapes are hand-harvested, sorted, and fully destemmed. Fermentation begins naturally after a 4-day cold maceration and lasts a total of 14 days. The grapes are vinified using traditional methods, with daily pump-overs and gentle punch-downs, especially towards the end of fermentation. The wine is aged for 16 months in French oak barrels sourced from the forests of Central France (50% new oak).

Tasting
Magnificent deep and brilliant carmine-red colour. The nose is delicate and subtle, revealing great freshness and expressing itself with finesse through fruity aromas (wild raspberry, redcurrant, fruit syrup), uplifted by a vegetal hint of bramble. The palate opens with a superb attack, marked by a light, airy acidity that is truly characteristic of the appellation. The aromas are enhanced by a finely integrated touch of mocha coffee. Lovely length on the palate, supported by refreshing acidity. The finish, endowed with fine tannins and a subtle saline note, highlights the distinctive and assertive character of this beautiful wine.
Food pairings
Perfect with red meats in sauce, or an eggplant moussaka.
