Presentation

The Domaine Charton, located in Burgundy, has been cultivating vines in Mercurey since 1941. Deeply attached to the notion of terroir, it produces wines with unique characteristics, reflecting the typicality of their "Climats". The love of the vine and the wine is passed down from father to son within the family. Grandson of the founder, Vincent is now at the head of the family estate, supported and advised by his father Jean-Pierre. The estate operates 11.50 hectares of vineyards located on excellent terroirs of the Mercurey appellation, in the Côte Chalonnaise.

Tasting

“Empreinte” is the estate’s signature cuvée, offering a precise and modern interpretation of Mercurey red. The robe is deep ruby with garnet highlights. The nose is expressive and focused, blending ripe black fruits (blackcurrant, blackberry), soft spices, and a subtle smoky note. On the palate, the wine is dense and layered, with a velvety yet structured texture, fine tannins, and vibrant tension. The oak is finely judged, enhancing the wine without overpowering it. The finish is long, persistent, and mineral leaving a lasting impression, true to its name.

Food pairings

This characterful cuvée pairs beautifully with grilled ribeye steak, duck with cherries, or a spiced lamb tagine. For a rich vegetarian match, try creamy mushroom polenta, a sweet potato and hazelnut gratin, or an aged firm cheese. A wine for both the table and the cellar serve between 14 and 16°C.
