E. Guigal, Lieu-dit, AOC Saint-Joseph, Blanc, 2023

Terroir

This white Saint-Joseph "Lieu-Dit" is born on the heights of Tournon and Sarras, in the heart of the appellation. The vines, aged 20 to 50 years, are planted on sandy-stony limestone and granitic soils, typical of the northern Rhône. This terroir combines the minerality of granite with the finesse of limestone, bringing tension, richness, and balance to the wine. A precise and identitary expression of Marsanne, sublimated by the altitude and exposure of the hillsides.

Winemaking

This white Saint-Joseph is vinified with precision to preserve the expression of the terroir and the natural richness of the grape varieties. Alcoholic fermentation is carried out at low temperature (around 18°C) to preserve finesse and freshness. Aging is evenly distributed between new barrels and barrels of one wine, for several months.

Tasting

The straw yellow dress with golden reflections announces the richness of the wine. The nose is complex and expressive, combining floral notes, fresh hazelnut, ripe yellow fruits, and a subtle woody touch. In the mouth, the attack is ample, dominated by the fatness and roundness of the Marsanne, with a well-present fruit and a beautiful persistence. The balance between volume and freshness is the signature of a white wine with character, both rich and precise. From today, this white Saint-Joseph seduces with its balance and richness. But it will gain in complexity over 10 years of aging, revealing more nuanced notes of honey, dried fruits, and sweet spices.

Food pairings

This white Saint-Joseph reveals all its richness with dishes that are both tender and expressive. It pairs perfectly with grilled pork pluma, poultry paupiette stuffed with herbs, or a slightly warm caponata.
