Presentation
Domaine Mathias is part of a family winemaking tradition spanning several generations. Its history dates back to Antoine Charvet, a winemaker and carpenter, who received an award in 1894 for the quality of his white wine from Chaintré. After him, his daughter Marie-Madeleine and her husband Claude Mathias continued to grow the estate. In 1958, Jean and Claudius Mathias began bottling and selling their own wines, marking a turning point. In 1992, Gilles Mathias and Béatrice Prost took over the estate and expanded it, reaching 12 hectares by 2019. Under their leadership, the vineyard was certified Organic Farming (Agriculture Biologique) as early as 2010. Thibault Mathias, son of Gilles, now carries on the family legacy, highlighting iconic appellations of the Mâconnais such as Pouilly-Fuissé, Pouilly-Vinzelles, and Mâcon-Chaintré. In the cellar, winemaking favors the use of indigenous yeasts and long aging on lees to enhance the aromatic richness and texture of the wines. The key feature? The continuity of an early organic tradition in Burgundy, with an uncompromising approach to expressing the full complexity of the Mâconnais terroirs.
