Presentation
One of the marked characteristics of the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation is the great diversity of its terroirs, diversity that is also found in the styles of its wines that differ considerably depending on where the grapes are grown. Based in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Maison Edouard Delaunay illustrates this wealth by offering several selections from Premier Cru climats located both north and south of the village.
Terroir
This Premier Cru vineyard is located north of the village of Nuits-Saint-Georges, at the entrance to the Meuzin valley, which leads to the Hautes-Côtes. Its name refers to the clay aspect of the soil, which is rather shallow here. Despite its almost full southern exposure, which allows the vines to benefit from a great deal of sunshine, the grapes ripen quite late due to the cold air that comes from the valley. The vines do a fine job of synthesizing these contradictory elements, resulting in a wine that is rich yet fresh.
Winemaking
From an old vine plot producing very low yields, the grapes are harvested at full ripeness in small crates. They are first sorted during picking, then again at the winery, before being fully destemmed. Vinification takes place in large wooden vats (foudres) and is marked by gentle daily pump-overs at the start of maceration, followed by punch-downs during mid-fermentation. Ageing lasts 18 months, with 66% new oak barrels sourced from the forests of Central France.

Tasting
Lovely garnet-red colour with bluish highlights. The first nose charms with fresh, vibrant citrus notes, blending blood orange and mandarin zest, alongside indulgent aromas of plum tart. Subtle hints of blond tobacco and cigar emerge, joined by delicate spices (curry, cumin), a touch of smokiness, and mineral nuances of graphite. The palate opens broad and generous, supported by fine-grained tannins and a persistent minerality that carries the tasting experience. Notes of small red berries then appear, leading into a beautiful, long finish with a hint of liquorice. An elegant, distinguished wine, defined by its finesse and lovely minerality.
Food pairings
Superb with porcini mushroom scrambled eggs or duck breast roasted with figs.
