Presentation
An up-and-coming village. Located in the northernmost part of the Côte de Nuits, not as well known as its neighbours further to the south, Marsannay is the village that is definitely on the rise. Some big name growers – in particular a few renowned ones from Gevrey-Chambertin– have vines there that thrive in its highly diverse terroirs. Marsannay represents excellent value for the money for the Côte de Nuits and several of its climats are candidates for Premier Cru ranking, which confirms the entire appellation’s potential for quality.
Terroir
South of the village, on the border between Couchey and Marsannay, at mid-slope, at an altitude of 300 metres on calcareous clay soil, the « En Combereau » plot is ideally located for the production of wines that ally elegance and depth.
Winemaking
The entire harvest was destemmed but not crushed so as to preserve all of the freshness and fruit that are characteristic of this appellation. Vinification lasted 15 days, after which the wines were transferred to finely-grained oak barrels. Ageing on fine lees lasted 15 months and included 33% new oak sourced from the forests of Central France.

Tasting
This wine reveals a lovely light red color. The nose is both fruity, fresh, and floral, with aromas of peony, basil, and cherry pit, all accompanied by a subtle woody hint reminiscent of wild cherry and fresh fruitwood. The palate is smooth and ample, with well-present but perfectly integrated tannins. A delicate smoky, woody note, akin to charcoal, emerges next. The mouth remains fruity and refreshingly vibrant, while light tannins on the finish are supported by a bright acidity. An expressive wine on the nose and delightful on the palate.
Food pairings
Excellent with a chicken skewer in a lemon sauce or a pork filet mignon roasted in honey.
