Presentation
One of the main characteristics of Nuits-Saint-Georges’ wines lies in the great diversity of its terroirs, diversity that is found in the different styles of wines that vary greatly depending on where the grapes are grown. Based in Nuits-Saint-Georges, the House of Edouard Delaunay illustrates this multiplicity by offering several selections from Premier Cru climats located both north and south of the village.
Terroir
Located amid the Premier Cru vineyards north of Nuits-Saint-Georges, on the Vosne-Romanée side at the bottom of the slope (250 metres altitude), this east-facing plot boasts deep, marly, silt-laden soil, which allows the vines’ roots to plunge deep down. This characteristic is reflected in the wine whose profile is rich and profound, fleshy and spicy and features silky tannins.
Winemaking
Hand-harvested at perfect ripeness, the grapes are quickly brought to the winery in small crates and carefully sorted before being destemmed—except for 30% of the bunches, which are left whole. Transferred into oak vats, they undergo a three-day cold pre-fermentation maceration, then begin fermenting naturally thanks to indigenous yeasts. Maceration lasts 16 days, with daily pump-overs and punch-downs during the middle of fermentation. After pressing, the young wine is transferred to French oak barrels (50% new, sourced from the forests of Central France) where it is aged for 18.5 months.

Tasting
Beautiful deep carmine-red colour. The nose is highly expressive and lifted, combining fruity notes of Morello cherry and cherry tart with a delicate hint of menthol freshness. Subtle aromas of rose and wild cherry wood are enhanced by an elegant touch of beeswax. The palate charms with its lovely roundness and density, supported by a firm, well-defined tannic structure. A fine array of fruit emerges, both fresh (raspberry, cherry) and spirit-infused, alongside woody and smoky notes (beech smoke). A remarkable wine with great presence on the palate and excellent ageing potential. Best decanted in its youth.
Food pairings
Superb with herb-roasted camembert and sautéed potatoes.
