Presentation

Domaine Julie Belland, heir to Domaine Roger Belland, is a family estate located south of Côte de Beaune. For six generations, the Belland family has cultivated prestigious terroirs in major appellations such as Santenay, Maranges, Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet, Meursault, Volnay, and Pommard. Julie Belland continues the work initiated by her father Roger, emphasizing reasoned and sustainable viticulture. Grass cover between rows preserves the microbial activity of the soils and avoids the use of chemical herbicides. Harvesting is manual, with meticulous sorting before vinification. The wines, aged in oak barrels, reveal beautiful aromatic complexity and elegant structure. The whites stand out for their finesse and richness, while the reds offer a superb expression of Pinot Noir with silky tannins and great depth.

Location

This cuvée comes from two plots: one located in Santenay Charmes du Dessus and the other in Santenay Charmes du Dessous. The label therefore mentions only "Santenay Charmes".

Terroir

Deep, clay-rich soil.

In the vineyard

Guyot pruning, early debudding and leaf thinning at the flower cap fall stage.

Harvest

100% manual harvest with very strict sorting in the vineyard.

Winemaking

The grapes are 100% destemmed and transferred to temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. A cold maceration lasting 6 to 8 days is carried out, with only pump-overs to support natural yeast development. Alcoholic fermentation begins after a week, maintained between 14°C and 18°C. Once all sugars are consumed, a warm maceration phase helps to fix color and soften the tannins.

Ageing

Aged for 10 months in 228L oak barrels with no new oak. Malolactic fermentation occurs during barrel ageing.

Varietal

Pinot Noir : 100%

Specifications

Age of vines : 50 à 70 years old

Serving

Serve between 14 and 16°C.

Ageing potential

3 to 5 years

Tasting

This Pinot Noir from the Côte de Beaune displays a bright ruby color. The expressive nose reveals aromas of ripe cherry, licorice, and blackcurrant. On the palate, the wine is generous and fruit-forward, with beautiful concentration. The tannins are fine and well-integrated, leading to a persistent finish with fruity and lightly spicy accents.

Food pairings

This Santenay "Charmes" rouge pairs perfectly with:
Grilled red meats: Such as ribeye or beef filet, enhancing its structure and spicy aromas
Game birds: Like duck or pheasant, to match its dark fruit character and finesse
Saucy dishes: Such as boeuf bourguignon or coq au vin, to resonate with its richness and complexity
Aged cheeses: Like Brie de Meaux or Reblochon, to complement its roundness and aromatic persistence
