Château Latour-Martillac, Lacroix Martillac, AOC Pessac-Léognan, Rouge, 2022

Classified growth since 1953, Château Latour-Martillac owes its name to the tower adorning its main courtyard, a vestige of a small fort built in Martillac in the 12th century by the ancestors of the famous philosopher Montesquieu. This estate caught the attention of Edouard Kressmann, a wine merchant in Bordeaux since 1871, especially for the quality of its white wines. His eldest son Alfred Kressmann bought the estate in 1930 and developed the red vineyard, along with his son Jean, on the remarkable grav

Presentation

LACROIX-MARTILLAC comes from plot selections of the vines of Château LATOUR-MARTILLAC, giving pride of place to the Merlot grape in our red wine blends. Vintage after vintage, the Kressmann family seeks to express in these wines the best of this authentic terroir of Graves, always favoring quality over yield, respecting cultural traditions.

Terroir

The vineyard is divided into two homogeneous sub-sets. On the Martillac plateau, the ridge overlooking the property is composed of a mosaic of gravel. These small pebbles deposited in the Quaternary by the Garonne form a skillful and harmonious mixture of quartz, lydian stones, jaspers, and flints. These poor and draining soils constitute an ideal terrain for the vine, especially for the red grape varieties Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. As we approach the Garonne, the soils take on a clay-limestone profile, with still some gravel on the surface. It is here that our Merlots and white grape varieties, Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, express themselves best.
