Presentation
The style of Tourelles de Longueville combines the terroir of Pichon Baron with the elegance of the grape varieties. The terroir of Sainte Anne, 14 hectares, ensures the production of Tourelles de Longueville. This wine, made from a selection of plots mostly planted with Merlot, thus has its own personality.
Terroir
Overlooking the Latour vineyard, the 73 hectares of the Domaine de Pichon Baron extend over very high-quality gravelly soils. This unique land, low in nutrients and not excessively watered, sparingly nourishes old vine stocks, producing grapes that are rare but exceptionally noble. This terroir is capable of producing extraordinary wines, which the property strives to do with excellence and consistency in respect of the original history of this vineyard. Comprised of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot, the vast vineyard of Pichon Baron has led to a meticulous division of plots. The 40-hectare grand terroir of the Pichon Baron hill is solely dedicated to the production of the Grand Vin and now represents the majority of its blend.
Winemaking
Gravity vinified in small wooden and stainless steel vats, favoring precise parcel selection. Extended cold pre-fermentation, rapid fermentation with indigenous yeast. Maceration at 25–27 °C, extractions focused in the heart of fermentation.
Ageing
70% in barrels of a wine, 30% in new barrels, for 12 months.
Varietals
Merlot : 65%
Cabernet-sauvignon : 26%
Cabernet franc : 9%
Tasting
Sweet, fresh, and lively on the medium-bodied palate, the wine provides elegance, lift, and layers of sweet, ripe berries on the mid-palate, and in the finish. While you can enjoy this on release, it promises to be better with age.
