Presentation

Royally located on one of the highest points of Saint Emilion, the limestone terroirs of Laroque give birth to bright, floral and spicy wines, with a fresh salinity and a nobility in touch that unmistakably characterize these places.

Terroir

Around the castle, we have a significant portion of limestone plateau emerging, which can be found at Clos Fourtet or Château Canon, giving rise to chestnut clays. Further to the east, there remains a layer of red clays, molasses from the Agenais region similar to those of Pavie-Macquin or Troplong-Mondot. The terraces of clays to the east, as well as the hillsides exposed to the west, are composed of the molasses from Fronsadais which contribute to the reputation of Ausone or Tertre-Roteboeuf. A small portion of the plain vineyard, whose wines are not included in the grand vin of Laroque, is made up of brown soils resulting from the erosion of the tops of limestone ridges.

Winemaking

Parcel vinifications in small concrete and stainless steel tanks. Gentle extraction by pumping over. Protective macerations aiming for more body and aromatic brightness.

Ageing

Reduced breeding on fine lees partly in barrels and partly in tanks. A first racking after 3 to 4 months of breeding, the second during the following winter, before bottling.

Varietals

Merlot : 96%
Cabernet franc : 4%
