Terroir

The terroir has such a strong personality that it has given its name to the region: "Les Graves". These gravels are a mixture of alluvial, sandy, stony soils deposited on a tertiary limestone subsoil by tumultuous rivers and glaciers from the beginning of the Quaternary era, which were then reshaped into ridges by erosion. At Smith Haut Lafitte, the soil is composed of one of the rare ridges of Gunzian gravels, thick and ochre in color, characteristic of its richness in iron oxide. This soil is very qualitative for viticulture because it is both draining, very poor, warm on the surface while maintaining a certain freshness and humidity in depth (clay or limestone).

Tasting

The wine is pale yellow. The nose is already very expressive with notes of yellow fruits (peach, apricot), white flowers (acacias, orange blossom), and a beautiful elegance of citrus fruits. The aromatic profile on the palate is similar to that of the nose with yellow fruits, floral notes, and a greater complexity with more mineral and spicy notes, and a hint of flint that indicates a very high-quality terroir.
