Presentation
Classified growth since 1953, Château Latour-Martillac owes its name to the tower adorning its main courtyard, a vestige of a fortress built in Martillac in the 12th century by the ancestors of the famous philosopher Montesquieu. This estate caught the attention of Edouard Kressmann, a wine merchant in Bordeaux since 1871, particularly for the quality of its white wines. His eldest son Alfred Kressmann bought the estate in 1930 and developed the red vineyard, along with his son Jean, on the remarkable gravelly ridge of Martillac. Today, Tristan and Loïc Kressmann, the two youngest sons of Jean, continue the family tradition to obtain the quintessence of this authentic gravel terroir. Lacroix Martillac is a plot selection from Château Latour-Martillac.
Terroir
Gravels, clays, and limestone soil. Each type of soil is suitable for a grape variety, red or white, that will express its personality. Under the supervision of Denis Wendling, the vineyard receives careful attention, from winter pruning to harvest, in order to facilitate the ripening of the best grapes and control the yield of the plots. The fruits thus reach a homogeneous ripeness. The clusters are carefully hand-picked and delicately transported whole to the winery.
