SOUVIGNIER GRIS

La Vicomté, Souvignier Rosé Gris, Vin de France

Sustainable grape varieties reduce the use of pesticides. They help preserving biodiversity and soil health. Fewer chemicals also mean less pollution of the air, water and surrounding ecosystems. Sustainble grape varieties are also resilient, they are adapted to climate change conditions, making them more resistant to heat and period of drought.

Presentation

Created in Germany in the 80’s by Dr Norbert Becker, the ancestors were attributed to Cabernet Sauvignon and Bronner. However the recent DNA approach confirmed a cross between Seyval Blanc, quite widely planted after phylloxera in most northern regions and Zaehringer, a cross of the aromatic varietals Traminer and Riesling, that also gave its lovely pinkish color to the Souvignier Gris berries.

Terroir

Souvignier Gris thrives in our clay-limestone soils, which favor good water retention, but it can also develop in some of our stonier soils.

In the vineyard

We cultivate our Souvignier Gris in compliance with High Environmental Value (HVE3) specifications : low use of chemicals, respect of the biodiversity and control of water usage.

Winemaking

Direct pressing to extract the juice without extended skin contact. The grape skins are separated from the juice quickly, resulting in a lighter color and more delicate flavors.

Tasting

Our Souvignier Gris has an attractive pale pink colour. On the nose, it reveals delicate floral aromas such as acacia flower and jasmine. On the palate, it reveals stone fruit aromas and flavours such as peach and apricot. These notes give it a fruity sweetness and a sensation of richness on the palate.

Food pairings

Souvignier Gris brings out flavors of spicy or exotic dishes such as Asian or Indian cuisine. It can be enjoyed with a variety of vegetarian dishes, such as green peas and asparagus risottos, broccoli and carottes quiches or pasta dishes with grilled vegetables. Its refreshing acidity complements the delicate flavors of seafood.
