Presentation
Exclusive. Chambolle-Musigny wines are very rare; the Premier Crus are even more so. We are particularly proud and happy to be able to offer this exclusive cuvée that hails from this little-known though superior Premier Cru vineyard.
Terroir
Our cuvée is sourced from a plot of over 60 years old located on the outskirts of the village of Chambolle-Musigny, along the famed Route des Grands Crus and adjacent to the “Bonnes-Mares” Grand Cru. The grapes for this cuvée grow on vines planted halfway up the slope; overlying the same rocky subsoil as is found in “Bonnes-Mares”. These moderately deep soils allow the wine to express both purity and elegance.
In the vineyard
The grapes were handpicked, then sorted. 20% of the bunches were left intact.
Winemaking
Following a cold maceration, fermentation began naturally under the influence of indigenous yeasts. The compounds in the grapes were extracted essentially through light yet frequent pump-overs, which allowed the wine to preserve all of the finesse of its terroir.
Ageing
It was aged in very finely-grained barrels for 14 months (50% new oak).
Varietal
Pinot Noir
Tasting
Magnificent dark vermillion colour. The first nose is redolent of red fruit (raspberry, cherry, prune) along with noble notes of cigar, leather and walnut. On the second nose, subtle fresh scents of menthol and dried herbs counterbalance richer notes of quince and mango. Vibrant, powerful start to the palate with an echo of the red fruit perceived on the nose, along with smoky, woody nuances (beechwood smoke, oak) and a decadent hint of buttercream. Then come fresher notes of heather and eucalyptus. The tannins are bold yet soft and well-integrated on the finish. This is a superb, powerful, robust wine that will require decanting in its youth.
Food pairings
Ideal with rib steak with creamy mushrooms or Chinese fondue
