Domaine des Varinelles is a family estate rooted in Saumur-Champigny since 1890. Louis Daheuiller planted the first vines and passed his passion down through 5 generations. His son Jean played a key role in the creation of the Saumur-Champigny AOC in 1957, and his grandson Claude brought the wines to the tables of some of Paris’ finest restaurants. Today, the fourth and fifth generations - Laurent and Nicolas - continue to build on that legacy.

Presentation
In 2011, they began the conversion to organic farming (now certified), one decision that showcases their commitment to preserve the expression of the Saumur-Champigny terroir, honoring Loire’s heritage as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Vines are grown on a rich mosaic of clay-limestone, loam, and sandy soils in the lieux-dits of Les Poyeux, Le Bourg, and La Butte de Saumoussay, contributing to the complexity of the wines, some of which come from vines over 100 years old. There’s even a bit of local humor in their nickname: “les nez pointus” (the pointy noses), a title affectionately given by fellow growers to this multigenerational winemaking family.
