Location
The Nuits Saint Georges Premier Cru La Richemone plots of Domaine Alain Michelot are located in the southern part of the Nuits Saint Georges appellation, close to Premeaux Prissey. This vineyard lies at the foot of the slope in a sheltered area with east to southeast exposure. The moderate altitude allows for full and even ripening of pinot noir. This warmer location compared to the northern sectors brings generosity and depth to the wine. The vineyard benefits from a calm and protected environment, ideal for precise viticulture. La Richemone expresses a rich and sun kissed style of Nuits Saint Georges.
Terroir
The terroir of La Richemone is composed of deep clay limestone soils rich in brown clay and silt, resting on a limestone subsoil. This soil composition gives the wines density and structure. Clay helps retain moisture and supports the vines during dry periods. Limestone brings balance and freshness, preventing heaviness. This terroir produces wines that are full bodied, powerful and generous, with strong ageing potential. It expresses itself through a rich texture and intense aromatics. La Richemone is known for its depth and natural richness.
In the vineyard
Domaine Alain Michelot practices reasoned viticulture and is certified Haute Valeur Environnementale. Soil work is prioritized to preserve soil structure and encourage biological life. Vineyard treatments are limited and adapted to each vintage. Yields are deliberately controlled to ensure balance and concentration. Manual work plays a central role throughout the growing season. This respectful approach ensures healthy, ripe grapes while preserving the long term integrity of the La Richemone terroir.
Harvest
Harvesting is carried out entirely by hand to protect grape quality. Careful sorting is done in the vineyard to select only healthy and optimally ripe fruit. Harvest dates are chosen according to phenolic ripeness of the pinot noir. This attentive harvest ensures a harmonious balance between richness and freshness. Grapes are quickly transported to the winery to prevent oxidation. This step is essential in shaping the wine’s generous and structured style.
Winemaking
Winemaking follows traditional Burgundian methods with a strong focus on terroir expression. Fermentations take place in open vats using indigenous yeasts. Extraction is progressive and controlled to achieve ripe and silky tannins. Maceration is adapted to the character of each vintage
Ageing
Ageing is carried out in French oak barrels for approximately 15 to 18 months, with a moderate proportion of new oak. This ageing refines the structure and adds depth and complexity.

Tasting
This Nuits Saint Georges Premier Cru La Richemone red displays a deep ruby color with dark highlights. The nose is intense and expressive, showing ripe black fruit aromas such as blackberry, blackcurrant and black cherry. Spicy notes, licorice and woodland nuances appear with aeration. On the palate, the wine is full bodied, generous and structured, supported by firm yet well integrated tannins. Freshness balances the richness of the fruit. The finish is long, generous and persistent.
Food pairings
This wine lends itself to bold pairings built around depth and roasted flavors. It pairs beautifully with grilled hanger steak, cumin roasted carrot purée and reduced jus, where natural sweetness balances the wine’s richness. A beluga lentil risotto with confit shallots and savory broth offers a textured and vegetal harmony. More unexpectedly, braised red cabbage with raspberry vinegar and gentle spices highlights the wine’s freshness and tannic structure. On the sweet side, the wine works well with a dessert based on baked plums, cocoa shortbread and light cream. It also matches roasted apple with maple syrup and toasted walnuts or a buckwheat financier served with lightly sweetened black fruit compote. These pairings emphasize the wine’s ability to complement expressive and modern cuisine.
