Château Clarettes, Grande Cuvée, Rosé, 2022

Château Clarettes is a long-standing anchor on the Arcs-sur-Argens terroir and has reborn from its ashes like Phoenix in recent years. It’s undergoing a complete renovation — with even more improvements to come — made possible by the will of wine enthusiasts Seligsons from Finland, who took over this vineyard in 2012. This historic estate is taking a page from nearby Bandol, utilizing a high proportion of Mourvèdre in its rosés.

Presentation

In the vineyard
No more weed-killer: in recent years, Château Clarettes is back to the sources of natural agriculture. Faithful to its philosophy that is resolutely turned towards sustainable development, the estate uses the services of “garden sheep”: animals work in late winter to clean the plots and, at the same time, produce natural organic amendment.
Winemaking
Harvested at sunrise. Destemmed and slightly crushed at cold temps to avoid oxidation. Both the free run and pressed juices are transferred to stainless vessels where fermentation is started and held at strictly controlled temperatures in state-of-the-art gravity-fed cellar.

Tasting
This comes from one of the top terroir of Provence. With its zesty burst of acidity, the subtle flavors are of rhubarb, raspberries, rose petals, dried Provençal herbs and pepper. This complex wine is a blend of Mourvèdre and Cinsault which shows in the wine with a touch of tannin giving structure and depth to the whole experience.

"(...) nicely concentrated, with a density not often found in this genre, and it has ample length on the dry, stony finish."
