Terroir

Originating from a confidential 1.7-hectare plot, the "Clos du Puy" is located at an altitude of 515 meters on the heights of Villemontais. This rare enclosed vineyard rests on rhyolite soil, a volcanic rock of granitic origin, which gives the wine a vibrant tension, a mineral finesse, and a unique depth. Facing east, the plot benefits from a cool and ventilated microclimate, promoting a slow and harmonious ripening of the grapes. An exceptional terroir for a Gamay Saint-Romain with a strong identity.

Harvest

The grapes from Clos du Puy are harvested by hand with meticulous sorting in the vineyard.

Winemaking

After a partial destemming at 75%, maceration lasts 18 days with gentle punch-downs to delicately extract the material and aromas.

Ageing

Breeding lasts for 11 months in 500-liter barrels and in vats, a choice that respects the identity of the terroir while bringing structure, roundness, and aromatic complexity.

Tasting

This high-altitude Gamay reveals a deep cherry robe and a complex nose where ripe strawberry, blackcurrant, and notes of cinnamon and nutmeg intertwine. On the palate, the attack is ample and velvety. The texture is dense, structured by silky tannins and a subtle freshness that lengthens the finish. A refined red wine, both elegant and expressive, combining intensity and finesse. The Clos du Puy can be enjoyed now for its roundness and aromatic richness, but it will gain complexity over time. Its aging potential is estimated at 5 to 7 years.

Food pairings

This deep and silky Gamay finds its place with Mediterranean dishes with bold flavors. It pairs perfectly with a thin eggplant and pecorino tart, a spicy Basque chicken, or even a paella.
